What's an AG? It's an Annual Gathering, the Mensa event of the year. The mandatory Annual Business Meeting is the reason; the biggest weekend of program, party, hospitality, and laid-back socializing in Mensa is the attraction. What's an old-time AG? It's one that epitomizes the good old do-it-yourself character of Mensa, the "Mensa is what you make it" style that made the organization grow and flourish. It means that this AG, hosted by Central Alabama Mensa, is designed, organized, and brought to you entirely by Mensa volunteers for fellow Mensans.
What's the program? Hundreds of organized events are scheduled straight through from tours and an evening of icebreakers on Tuesday, July 3, to a farewell brunch on Sunday, July 8, with official welcome on Wednesday. Speakers, presentations, and group events cover the gamut from education to entertainment, from controversy to karaoke, from dancing the jig to doing the jigsaw, and Saturday includes the banquet as well as the Mensa Prom. Mensans from ages 4 to 12 will find a program of special presentations and activities in the Kids Trek; adolescent Mensans and guests are encouraged to participate in TeenSIG activities. For more detail about what's in store for you, take a look at the program listings. What's "hospitality"? It's the way we show our finest Southern-style welcome, and more: it's a room set aside for casual socializing, where Ms can gather, visit, play games, and chill. Abundant beverages and a full down-home feast provide more than just a taste of Southern comfort. Tables and plenty of seating make it easy to meet, greet, circulate, and relax between events. What about meals? Meals in the meal plan are events that bring everyone together in one place for introductions, speakers, announcements, special presentations, and of course the pleasure of breaking bread in the best of company. In addition to the hotel's standard offerings, the hospitality room will be amply stocked, and spontaneous groups will form to sample local restaurants.
What's the cost? AG2007 is affordable in all ways. Registration is still only $80.00 (for adults; less for children). Amenities to make your travel easier and your stay more economical include free airport shuttle to and from hotel, free parking, and hotel rooms at a low $89.25 per day.
What's in Central Alabama? Bustling Birmingham is a surprise city with diverse delights, centrally located near three major interstates. This flower-filled Southern metropolis is the cultural and entertainment capital of Alabama, boasting world-class restaurants, a burgeoning music scene, and a host of other attractions. A trolley takes visitors to the heart of the action. If you don't want to explore Birmingham on your own, you can sign up for one of the group tours. What's the best part? Mensans. More than a thousand of them. You, your friends, and your friends to be, all together for one exhilarating weekend of fun, festivity, and enrichment, making Mensa what you make it. Let's not make it without you. Questions about the website: webmaster. |
